Karen Smythe stands with Hudson Valley Stands Up (HVSU). HVSU is a student led gun violence prevention organization that came together after Parkland. HVSU hosts a postcard writing party where they asked Mitch McConnell why he won’t bring gun violence prevention legislation to the floor. A bipartisan vote in the House sent it to the Senate and it has been sitting there for over a year. 100 people a day die from gun violence in the United States and over 90% of Americans want Universal Background Checks so why doesn’t Mitch McConnell bring it to a vote? These students are sick of live shooter drills!
Karen Smythe is running for New York State Senate.

Dear Fellow Activists,
Last month we shared the exciting news that Hudson Valley Strong will be partnering with Indivisible The Fight Is On (ITFIO) to provide the strongest possible platform to support political activism to protect our people and values while resisting Trump and his reactionary agenda. The previously unimaginable events of the past few weeks that saw neo Nazis, KKK and violent white supremacists marching through the streets of Charlottesville and Trumps strident defense of their actions underscore the challenges we face and the need to work in strong coalition.
We are proud to work side by side with the members of ITFIO and feel fortunate we can strengthen our efforts by extending our reach to magnify the impact of our actions. As part of our efforts ITFIO will be sending out their weekly Action Priorities to all Hudson Valley Strong members. This email includes timely information about political developments as well as a focused listing of high impact actions that we can all take. In the event you do not wish to be included on the Action Priorities mailing list, please let us know. But please be assured that your email address will remain confidential and will not be shared with any other group or used by any campaign. As the summer draws to a close please look in your email inbox for a brief survey where you can share your thoughts and opinions on how you would like to direct your activism and how you would like to engage in these efforts.
Yours in activism,
Hudson Valley Strong Steering Committee
